Life on the Farm: Bushcraft - Only 1 spot left as of Monday, October 19th, 6:15 AM!
Tuesday, November 3 – Ages 5–10
10:00 AM–2:00 PM | $175 First-Time Students | $145 Returning Students
Could you build a shelter, start a fire, prepare a meal, and make water safer to drink using only the bare essentials?
Join us at Buckland Family Farm for a hands-on introduction to bushcraft, the practical skills and knowledge used to live, work, and thrive outdoors.
Students will explore the natural resources around them while learning how to build a simple shelter, safely start and maintain a fire, prepare a meal over an open flame, and experiment with filtering water using natural materials.
Throughout the day, we'll put science, engineering, observation, and problem-solving into practice as students discover how people have used the resources of the natural world to meet their basic needs.
What We'll Explore
Build a Shelter: Gather natural materials and construct a simple outdoor shelter while exploring structure, stability, and protection from the elements.
Start a Fire: Learn about tinder, kindling, fuel, and the fire triangle while practicing age-appropriate fire-building techniques under close supervision.
Cook a Meal: Prepare a simple meal over an open fire using basic tools and supplies, learning about heat, food preparation, and outdoor cooking safety.
Filter Water: Build a simple water filtration system using materials such as sand, gravel, and charcoal, and investigate how filtration removes visible particles and why filtered water is not necessarily safe to drink.
We will focus on discovering basic outdoor skills through guided exploration, simple construction, teamwork, and supervised activities.
Our hope is they will gain an appreciation for resourcefulness, self-reliance, cooperation, and responsible use of the natural environment.
